Sharing warmth through comforters

comforters, Christian Aid Minstries

Sahar’s* words portrayed her gratitude when she received a handmade comforter. She and her children struggle to make ends meet in Tajikistan after escaping danger in Afghanistan. A comforter provides warmth and serves as a tangible reminder of compassion to this family.

CAM could use 100,000 comforters every year.

As we experience the cold grip of winter, our hearts go out to people in Eastern Europe and other cold-climate parts of the world. Fuel shortages in various countries make heating houses difficult. We have an ongoing need for comforters to bring some warmth in these conditions.

From scraps of fabric

A comforter, formed by loving hands from scraps of fabric, brought smiles to Costel and his family in Romania. As a father of eight children, Costel can afford to heat only parts of his house during Romania’s bitter winters. Finding jobs, especially during winter months, is difficult. Heating costs normally consume a lot of the income he earns by doing odd jobs.

100,000 in demand for Romania, Nicaragua, the Middle East, and other places.

“We really like the comforter because it keeps us nice and warm,” testifies Costel. “Thank you very much and God bless you for your generosity!”

Comforters in high demand

high demand, Comforters, Christian Aid Ministries

During the harsh winters of Eastern Europe, a thick comforter is a welcomed gift to help provide some warmth. “With the cost of firewood skyrocketing in Romania, alternative heating options like the comforters are going to be just as important as ever,” says a CAM staff member.

Comforters are also sent to warm-climate countries to use as soft mats for people who don’t have a bed to sleep on. Each year, we could ship as many as 100,000 comforters to needy places around the world! We are currently receiving a little more than half that amount per year.

Thank you to all of you who labor over comforters, cutting and sewing blocks and knotting the final product. Your work of love is noticed by God and appreciated by many grateful recipients.

If you have a comforter to donate, you can drop it off at any CAM location.

A warm comforter for Marius

warm comforter, Christian Aid Ministries

Marius is a handicapped eleven-year-old boy who lives in Moldova, a part of the former Soviet Union. His parents live and work in another country, so Marius stays in a Christian home for handicapped boys. Because of his disabilities, he has a feeding tube and spends most of his days in a wheelchair. The gift of a thick, colorful warm comforter is a huge blessing to Marius. It keeps him warm during Moldova’s bitter winter and brings a bright spot to his life.

CAM could use at least 100,000 comforters per year. We also need funds to ship them to needy recipients.

Do you have a new comforter you wish to donate? Please ship it to our Indiana Clothing Center: Christian Aid Ministries, 660B S. Van Buren St., Shipshewana, IN 46565, or drop it off at any CAM location.
