Some of us children from our village had an exciting day. Today some North Americans living in Haiti told someone from our village that they were opening the clean water station in our community for the first time! It didn’t take long for everyone to find out. We grabbed some jugs and cooking pots and ran to the water station close to the well.

Up until today, we got most of our water from a river nearby. That’s what we used to drink, cook, and do laundry. We were eager to see how the water from the well would be. Us children were the first ones there, and we couldn’t resist touching the crystal clear water before filling our containers.

Our neighbors brought donkeys, cows, goats, and other animals to get a drink. One of the mammas from the village came with her dirty dishes instead of washing them in the river. When she left them on the rocks nearby so she could get more water, the goats got into her dishwater and started drinking! Some of us tried to shoo them away.

We were all happy as we left for home. Some of us carried the water on our heads, and others used the animals to carry the water home. Now we won’t need to go to the river for water anymore!
